If it is indeed Sri Lankan Tamils that you meant then it is not completely correct. Sympathy for Sri Lankan Tamils still exists in Tamilnadu atleast. Even if it is not sympathy, it is an issue that political parties in TN are ready to take in their hands whenever they wish. You cannot take the recent elections as proof to say that TN does not care. It is too early to say that.

How do you say that allowing Sri Lankans to travel freely in India would help in the healing process that has to happen within their own split society? India can provide jobs to people in north but is India capable of guaranteeing them social equality and freedom to practice their religion and culture without fear?

Already the Sri Lankans are behaving as though their country has become a developed nation. I foresee more belligerence and not friendliness from them. They don't appreciate the fact that though India did not provide them with offensive weapons, it did not stand in their way during the war.

I see many analysts wanting more and more carrots for Sri Lanka when it is actually a carrot and stick approach that India has to follow. If we fail to use the stick, all of India's neighbours may start to adopt Sri Lanka's example and start demanding more and more from India leading to troubles for our economy and erosion of our competitiveness.

Please always keep in mind that there is plenty of work to be done in our own country. Don't forget the poor people of Bihar who suffer from floods every year and the homeless millions, before asking to channel our resources to countries whose trustworthiness is suspect.
